Jamaica Relief

AMURT has been actively responding to the widespread devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa in Jamaica through coordinated relief and medical outreach. Early efforts included a visit by a 12-member AMURT team to Balaclava Primary School in St. Elizabeth, where the school partnered with AMURT to reach vulnerable families in surrounding rural communities. With support from the school’s Justice of Peace, Mrs. Joy Colley, the team distributed 50 care packages to families identified by the school as most in need.

As relief efforts expanded, AMURT collaborated with multiple partners to deliver aid and medical services across some of the hardest-hit parishes, including St. James, Trelawny, Westmoreland, and St. Elizabeth. Joint interventions involved mobile clinics and care-package distributions in communities such as Petersfield, Burnt Savanna, Salt Spring, and surrounding areas. Multidisciplinary teams, including medical personnel and teachers, provided medical consultations to nearly 200 patients and distributed over 160 care packages. In addition, building materials such as sheet metal were delivered to assist families in rebuilding damaged homes.
