In recent years, AMURT has expanded its presence to several regions where programs focus on community building, improved water access, sanitation and ecological regeneration.

AMURT's center is situated just at the edge of the artificial lake of Bissiri, deep in the country side of Burkina Faso, 45 kilometers south of the capital, Ouagadougou. The land was donated by the people of the community, who hope it will spur development and help provide the basic necessities of life.

Burkina Faso – Access to Water

In partnership with the NGO “Water Shed Management” AMURT initiated a new program aimed at finding ways to collect surface water (rain water) and prevent runoff. In collaboration with the communities we established varieties of small check dams, repaired existing dams, created basins to gather the water from around trees and the surfaces of crop fields.

Primary and maternal healthcare in Burkina Faso

Traditional Birth Attendants (TBAs) are women selected in each village within AMURT's area of coverage in Deou. Their main duties are to bring the mothers to the nearest clinic for delivery, and to lead talks and encourage discussions about issues such as hygiene, family planning, the importance of prenatal care, HIV protection and screening, and the refusal of female genital mutilation. When needed, pregnant women receive iron pills, malaria medicine and general checkups.
